The 9 Noble Virtues (Part 1)

Hey, Pumpkins! Today we will be talking about the 9 Noble Virtues.  These are very important to me as after a passed pushed me to it I have tried to live by these virtues. These 9 virtues can be traced back to Viking and ancient Nordic writings.  Keep these as a reminder of who you are and how our ancestors tried to live.

The History

Although most people believe these virtues come from Viking and ancient Nordic writings, there is debate over where they truly originated from. Some say the Vikings and the Nordic, some say Medievil Germonics, Odinist Fellowship, Asatru, or historical Norse paganism. I guess it could be any of these but most evidence points to the Vikings and ancient Nordic writings. (We will be going through these via the writings of the Vikings and the Norse.)

What are they?

As it is said, "We are our deeds". The following 9 noble virtues were known to guide us in our ways.

The 9 Noble Virtues:

  1. Courage
  2. Truth
  3. Honor
  4. Fidelity
  5. Discipline
  6. Hospitality
  7. Self Reliance
  8. Industriousness
  9. Perseverance
Today we will dive into Courage, Truth, Honor, and Fidelity. Let's go through the meanings of these...

1. Courage

Thor, the God of thunder and lightning, is also a symbol of courage for the Norse. One should face their fears no matter how hard it may be, this takes courage and grows mental and physical strength. Courage is not only facing your fears but accepting the truth.

2. Truth

Although the truth often hurts, it is always better in the long run. Truth is not only about honesty, it is a state of being. Living in the face of reality.

3. Honor

We all have a moral compass. That nagging feeling of what is wrong and what is right. Some say that it depends on how we are raised and some say that it is simply something naturally built into us all. I believe the latter.

Honor is not only about other people but also honoring yourself. It is recognizing yourself, your spirituality, your personality, etc. Never forget your importance in this universe.

4. Fidelity

Faithfulness, loyalty, and support. These together make fidelity. Committing to one person, one community, one society, etc. This, such as with honor, is not only regarding others. It is important to be loyal to yourself, and your passions. Be able to support yourself and your lifestyle. You should always be your main priority.

We will stop here today, as I feel it is important to take some time to absorb information. (If that is what you are looking for.) I hope this helps you clearly understand, as well as helps you feel your best in life. We don't need to feel pressured, none of us will follow these virtues all the time, we are only human.

Until next time Pumpkins!

Blessed be

Emerald
